Susan K (Kathy) Land [Region 3] 2020 IEEE President, 2009 IEEE Computer Society President

I have known  Nita Patel for over 15 years as a volunteer within the IEEE. We served  together as members of the Computer Society Board of Governors, on  various IEEE Committees, and in IEEE Women in Engineering. When I found  out recently that she had been nominated to run for IEEE Computer  Society President I was thrilled as I could not think of a more  qualified individual! Both the IEEE and the Computer Society will be  facing challenging times in the upcoming years as we emerge from the  after effects of COVID-19. While Nita is a dynamic leader, she is also  pragmatic possessing that unique and rare balance of visionary  leadership balanced with common sense and practicality. She possesses  the experience and leadership characteristics that will benefit the  Computer Society membership and volunteers and I enthusiastically  endorse her candidacy for Computer Society President!

I had the honor  of meeting Nita at IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership in  2017. Among so many things that I have been learning from her, I  believe that the most important of all is the ability to inspire and  engage people. Nita showed with her work that example is the most  powerful tool and that it is necessary to establish empathic  relationships to make changes. She has a fascinating vision of the  future, managing to put into practice the transformation she wants to  see in the world. Working in the area of technology, I understand the  importance of social impact - as important as technologies for an  abundant future is to understand that it has to be good for everyone -  she strongly brings this vision of impact and inclusion of people in the  tech scenario. Nita's ability to lead, bring diversity, inclusion and  important discussions to technology is exemplary. I believe that the  IEEE Computer Society will have the privilege of having as President one  of the most incredible women I have ever met. She is certainly one of  the women who inspires me the most in the technology area and especially  within the IEEE. I am proud to endorse her for the position of 2021  IEEE Computer Society President-Elect.

John Treichler [Region 6] 2021 President, IEEE Foundation

Nita Patel was  elected to the board of the IEEE Foundation, the IEEE’s partner in  philanthropy, three years ago. As president and chair of the Foundation  board, I’ve been lucky enough to work closely with Nita the whole time  she has been a director. She has served on most of the board’s key  committees, and has brought to all of them the valuable perspective  she’s gained from her  years of technical management experience.  I’ve  watched her use a judicious mixture of leadership and collegiality to  bring her teammates  to well crafted decisions. I believe it would be  very hard to find someone as prepared for the presidency of the Computer  Society’s Board of Governors as Nita. I strongly recommend her for this  role.

Nita Patel is  an experienced IEEE leader. She funded the IEEE WIE ILC, the  inspiration and sustainable model for all WIE International Leadership  Summits around the globe. Nita offers ideas and tools for problem  solving and stands by the highest standards, including diversity,  inclusion, and ethics. She is a leader who mobilizes others to tackle  challenges, a leader whom you can trust. She is a champion in leadership  and a champion in chess, and for me, a mathematician, this means that  she is a champion in logical and critical thinking, two of the most  valuable skills for any president. Nita is a remarkable woman.

I have known  and worked with Nita during her term as the VP of Member &  Geographic Activity Board (MGAB) within the computer Society. I have  seen Nita to be fully committed, vision driven and results oriented. She  is a great supporter of the Young professionals program and encourages  and supports younger engineers and volunteers to take up various  leadership roles within IEEE. Nita's position statement includes making  CS and IEEE more industry relevant, making our chapters more member  focused by providing access to critical technology and increasing our  volunteer impact. These are clearly the action items CS and IEEE should  take to make IEEE more relevant for the 21st century. I strongly endorse  and support Nita Patel as the next President of IEEE Computer Society.

Karen Bartleson [Region 5] 2017 IEEE President

As a person working on digital technology in my day job, I understand  how critical it is for an organization like IEEE to play a role in  advancing technology and expanding the impact. I worked with Nita Patel  in the women in engineering community, what I am inspired about is the  strategy that was laid out and the direction which the strategy took WIE  as an organization on its own within IEEE. I am sure under Nita’s  leadership, the computer society will also not only create an impact  with industry engagement and better volunteer collaboration, but also  encourage the advancement of the latest in technologies and help play  IEEE a role to keep up with the change that the world is seeing now.   I highly recommend Nita Patel for leading the society and believe that  she will not only bring the changes but also renew the way we look at  IEEE’s role in this digital era.

Nita Patel is  an inspiration for many IEEE Volunteers around the globe. I have known  Nita for the last 7-Years, I got introduced to Nita through my  involvement with IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership  Conference (WIE ILC) which she founded in 2014. I had the opportunity to  volunteer with her for the first two editions conference. Till date WIE  ILC is one of the best conferences for Women in IEEE and it brings  together more than 1000+ Members around the World. Under Nita's  leadership in Computer Society as Vice-President of MGAB the new  membership model was introduced for CS Professional Members. She also  initiated the Student & Young Professional (SYP) Activities  Committee in CS. During her tenure she offered excellent support for the  student programs such as IEEEXtreme, IEEEmadC and the first CS Student  Congress in R9. She also organized the learning webinar series for  members to know more about the organization and its benefits. Having  volunteered alongside Nita in the Computer Society MGA Board, I am  confident that her excellent leadership skills and strong industry  connection will lead the IEEE Computer Society into a new dimension. I  endorse Nita Patel for IEEE Computer Society President-Elect 2021.

I first met  Nita when I attended the first IEEE Women in Engineering International  Leadership and saw first-hand over the following years how her expert  leadership in founding and leading this event led to positive changes  within the WIE organization that continue to resonate beyond her tenure.  She is one of the most valuable IEEE volunteer leaders because no  matter what role she takes on, her vision and strong leadership are a  driving force for implementing positive changes. She also has  successfully balanced a very demanding job with these roles as evidenced  by her many awards in both her professional and volunteer career. She  already has a strong volunteer foundation within the Computer Society  and I am proud to endorse her for the position of 2021 IEEE Computer  Society President-Elect.

Costas Stasopoulos [Region 8] IEEE Region 8 Past Director

Nita is one  of the most active and hardworking IEEE volunteers I have ever met! We  have worked together in several IEEE committees and I was really  impressed by her input, new ideas and enthusiasm for whatever she was  doing. Especially as the Women in Engineering Chair she has shown her  leadership skills and has set her mark in the future and long term path  of the group. In the New Initiatives committee she was investigating and  examining all the new initiatives that were brought in front of us and  her intuitive perspective has  helped immensely the whole committee. In  the Industry Committee she interview influential industry members and  applied her findings in new programs and processes. Overall Nita is a  great leader and a gifted, inspired, hard working volunteer and would  make a great IEEE Computer Society President.
